What is Necroabortion you ask? I shall let the band answer that. From the lyrics of the song “Living Dead Abortion” - “Necroabortion is the abortion of Death / With a hammer destroys all christian heads / The worm of death eats the living ones… / and fucks the dead rotten animals.” Right. I hope you are sorry you asked.
Okay, they are a death metal band from Argentina. That explains a lot. But you better not treat their music as something inferior – Prion kicked my ass too hard (left a mark) for me to underestimate bands from that country again. Necroabortion's music is more straightforward and derivative than the hypnotic dark death metal music of Prion, sounding like Cannibal Corpse with hints of Vader, Hate Eternal and Nile, but they too have an experimental edge. I don't know about you but I have grown tired of the last half a dozen albums by most of these big bands, so in that regard I don't exactly have an erection that is interfering with my typing or vision. That said, I don't mind well played death metal and thankfully Necroabortion's music is that and more. They are fast and brutal, play sharp and good riffs, and what is more is that they have the balls to add their own technical and progressive touches to it. While playing typical Cannibal Corpse blasts and hooks they tend to get indulgent (a great thing in their case) and take it forward in their own way, making the music far more engaging and interesting than they probably realise. If they are not wanking off, then I definitely am. Every frigging song has such moments of unfulfilled greatness that are spoiled by horribly clichéd parts, which is like having a bad déjà vu in the middle of an orgasm. Being raw and not perfectly balanced, production doesn't help things immensely; sometimes when the leads come on, it is as though the music is being led by a midget or something small.
Brutal Misanthropy is like a slightly more open-minded and progressive Cannibal Corpse album, competent and interesting albeit still obviously derivative. Necroabortion have good potential and the more they sound different from the big over-familiar bands, the better it is for everyone. You don't have to turn your cow into boots for this, but if you get a chance to check them out for less, then you may please do so.
