"Lost in the Darkness" is another proof. The band is basically Marco Ruggerio, who did all guitar work and wrote the songs + singer Alessandro Granato. Drums and Bass were recorded by two different rhythm crews, at two different sessions. Both recordings differ in sound, but not in musical or songwriting-quality. Ok, after a short mystical intro, the band crashes in with a powerfull double-bass drive and a furious riff, that could have been writen by Tipton/Downing for "Defenders of the Faith". The next highlight is Granato`s high-pitched voice, that gives the icing to this Speed/Power Metal opener, called "Claustrophobia". "Victim of Rage" is the next attack in best US Metal tradition, again with a great, varied guitarwork (riffs, twin-runs, solos) and some powerful Tate-Rivera-like vocals. Between driving speed- and stomping power-parts, some melodic bits shine through. "No way out" is a cool Speedster, that shows up with a dose of Thrash attitude. In-your-face stuff, with a riff, after the first break, that is best Exodus-Tempo of the Damned-tradition. The song again impresses with loads of variety, melody and power. Fine soloing by Ruggerio here. "Killing Greed" is the last track from that first session. Power-Speed Metal at it`s best. The following six tracks come from the other session. "Double Shot" is a heavy stomper, "Mindstruck" pure Speed Metal and "Through this life" a beautiful power-ballad, that shows once more Granato`s skills as power-singer. All in all "Lost in the Darkness" is a brilliant debut with not one weak song on it. Musically the band is beyond reproach. The sound is good and the cover artwork fits well, with it`s mystical touch. Modern traditional Metal in the best sense. Highs: Every song is an original sounding piece of thrash, which is hard to come across nowadays. Great production. Lows: Very little to complain about. The Rape What a difference a couple of years make. Since their debut release, Italian Thrash/Crossover purveyors have really upped their game on this new album ‘Blades and Rods’. The opener, ‘metal slug’ shows the band concentrating on groove and power, much more so than bashing the crap out of their instruments. Still in love with Germanic Thrash of the 80’s, namely Tankard this time around, ‘Competition’ bolts into action like the band has been susceptible to a gallon of energy drinks. You won’t find groundbreaking differences in their music to other crossover bands, but the production and their musicianship has certainly come on leaps and bounds. In fact, they are a highly trained unit and I found with the initial listen, this album does it for me and surely will for you too. At a little over 24 minutes, it is certainly a short sharp attack. The album artwork, whilst fitting to the genre is a great piece. ‘Vice’ opens with James Milton’s (played by the legendary Al Pacino) monologue/speech from the film ‘The Devils Advocate’ (“God Likes to watch….he is a Sadist!” etc) before establishing itself as the longest track on the offering and in a style of thrash a-kin to Britain’s Evile and Shock Troopers label mates Pitiful Reign before going Germanic again with ‘Protection Money’, especially in Vincenzo Librici’s vocals. These Italians still hold true the traditional aspect of thrash’s lyrical content, namely nuclear waste/war on ‘The Rape’ (of the Earth) thus complimenting all the expected elements of a band in this genre, keeping it real if you like. Shock Troopers have managed to record one hell of a follow up to their debut, the sound, the song arrangements and the overall feel of the album is top notch. Id say they remind me most of Toxic Holocaust, especially on the title track. While their were hints of thrash dating back as early as Kaviar Die-Hards, the band became increasingly thrash metal minded with the passage of time, also noted by the background on their myspace, featuring old vinyl copies of Sarcofago and Abigail albums I never really thought of them as being influenced by thrash, though, I always assumed the thrashes on Kaviar Die-Hards were meant to be grind thrashes. Because of the mix of hard rock and thrash, some tracks almost seem like old punk rock in the GG Allin vein, (seeing as how so many pornogrind and goregrind bands have an obsession with GG Allin.) STEEL ASSASSIN War of the Eight Saints

Formed as a cover band in 1980, the group officially became STEEL ASSASSIN in 1983, appearing on Metal Massacre 6 in 1985. Despite acclaimed true metal demo tapes and live shows in the early/mid '80s, the band disbanded in 1985, a brief reunion in 1988 keeping the STEEL ASSASSIN name alive. The band members continued on in other projects, with 2005 finally bringing 4 of the 5 original members back together again, resulting in heavy writing and rehearsal sessions for the War of the Eight Saints album. New lead singer John Falzone (Triphammer) was added to the line-up, and Rich Spillberg (Wargasm) handled the engineering and production duties. Because you really can not have any complains against musical elements "full" of Forbidden, Testament, Paradox, Megadeth, Toxik and Coroner. Verdict Denied plays this kind of Metal (which is considered from some fans as "dead") with great amounts of passion, and energy. And in the end, that's all that counts. They have an ace under their sleeve, due to their very good technical/playing abilities, which could become a "problem" in the future however, if they decided to dwell even deeper in those musical tech-forms.
